Rear End Gear Ratio Check

I tie a string around the drive shaft with the knot at the bottom and then roll the vehicle one full revolution of the either rear tire.   Then just count the number of times the string has been wrapped around the drive shaft plus the amount the knot is past the bottom to get the ratio.   Three times around plus the knot about half way up would be 3.25; if the knot was at the top it would be 3.50, etc.
